Eclat Roofing on Federal Tax Credits for roofs and Insulations
With the signing of the new stimulus bill, significant changes in energy will provide Americans with new tax credits. A few tax credits will affect residential and commercial roofing contractors and also insulation contractors. Under this new energy program, these businesses are in direct competition with other contracting industries i.e. plumbing, windows and doors, HVAC, and solar energy. ax credits per household will be a maximum of $1,500 for the tax year 2009 and 2010. The new tax credits have been raised from 10% to 30%. Instead of an exact dollar amount the credit has been converted to 30% of the cost. The maximum credit has been raised from $500 to $1,500 for the two year period. Other tax credits can be found @ www.energystar.gov. Metal roofs and Asphalt roofs that are "Energy Star" qualified and labelled; tax credit = 30% of cost up to $1,500. Insulation that meets 2009 IECC & amendments ; tax credit = 30% of cost up to $1,500. Remember, for insulation to qualify its primary purpose must be insulate. For tax deductions on commercial buildings a tax deduction of up to $1.80 per sq. ft. is available to owners or designers of new existing commercial buildings that save at least 50% of the heating and cooling energy of a building. Partial deductions of up to &.60 per sq. ft. can be taken for measures affecting any of three building systems; the building envelop, lighting or cooling and heating.
